The Jester – By: C. Aviles

They throw their smiles at him
Hide truth behind lying eyes
Cackles fill the room.
The king commands more
The queen commands more
And the jester continues his dance.

Tired and broken
Smiling through lying teeth
Torn limbs.
His tattered soul cries
Always the one laughed at
Never laughed with
Smiled with
Never loved.

The joke is him
Pun, his slavery
The punchline, his revenge
So smile jester, at the blood on your hands
The kings at your feet
Smile, at the queen by your side
They laugh no more
